Shirley Gregg Coates, 84, of Weaverville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 13, 2023. A native of Newport, TN, she was a daughter of the late Hooper and Lily Corn Gregg. Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Coates; daughter, Sharon Taylor; sons, David Stevie and Danny Coates; grandson, Timmy Coates; and her brother, Carrol Gregg.

She worked in textile mfg. and enjoyed bluegrass music and buck dancing. Shirley was a member of Jupiter Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children; Theresa Revis (Michael), Michael Harvey Coates, Ray Coates (Jody); sister, Mary Dean Anders (James); brother, Don Gregg (Peggy); grandchildren, Tonya Bowman (Jeremy), Daniel Pack, Dereck Coates (Lindsey), Lee Coates, Melanie Rector (Sam); and several great grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 15, 2023 in Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville. The family will receive friends 11:00-12:00 Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill.
