Susan Chou Ho Ear, 72, of Asheville, NC, passed away on August 9, 2026. She was born on January 3, 1954, in Cambodia to Wong Ho and Cheng Ling Ho.

Susan along with her husband and their children, made Asheville and the surrounding area their home for over 40 years, most recently she lived at Fleshers of Fairview. She was a homemaker who loved her family and friends deeply. She had a curious mind and loved learning new things about life and the world. She enjoyed meeting her neighbors and meeting new people.

She was very proud of the journey and life she and her husband built after surviving

Concentration camps during the Khmer Rouge Regime in Cambodia, where she and Khy lost two children. With just the clothes on her back and her third child, she and Khy immigrated to the United States in 1981 with the help and sponsorship of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. She and Khy proudly became US citizens in May 1988.

Susan was a devoted and loving wife, and mother to four children. She was grateful to Grace Covenant, and members of the Asheville, Buncombe, and Madison County community who helped her experience life despite mental health struggles.

Susan is survived by her husband, Khy Hao Ear of Asheville, NC; their daughter, Lisa Ear (Jay Rector) of Asheville, NC; their son, Walter Ear (Alisha Ear) of Asheville, NC; and 5 grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held on August 22, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Givens Gerber Park, Building 50, Community Room. The gathering will be informal - an opportunity for those who knew and loved her to come together, share memories, and honor her life.

Refreshments will be provided.

The family will later scatter her ashes in the mountains she called home.
