Susan Smith Wilson, age 77, of Weaverville, entered her heavenly home on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Susan was born July10, 1944 in Buncombe County to the late "Bus" and Marjorie Buckner Smith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 56 years, Junior Lee Wilson, son, Johnny Wilson and grandson, Bradlee Elliott Wilson.
Mrs. Wilson was a retired deputy clerk for the Buncombe County Tax Office. She was the last surviving charter member of the Reems Creek Fire Department, where she formerly served as treasurer and currently serving as secretary for the Board of Directors. Susan was a member and former president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Reems Creek Fire Dept and formerly volunteered on the ambulance. Susan was very active in her community serving as the commissioner of the North Buncombe Co-Ed Church Softball League, also serving the Beech Community Club as treasurer and a former member at Reems Creek-Beech Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and served as the director of vacation bible school for many years; Kids Club Volunteer; also served as secretary and was on multiple committees. The church members dedicated the doors in honor of her many years of service. She was a faithful and devoted member of Newbridge Baptist Church, singing in the choir, a soloist and member of the handbell choir, a member of the Lottie Anderson-Roy Pope Sunday school class and served as the chairperson of the kitchen team and hostess team. Susan had a strong faith and was devoted to her family and passionate about volunteering. She loved traveling, cooking and baking to share with others, her flowers, the Atlanta Braves, spending time watching the birds and wildlife in her yard. Her sense of humor and love of the simple things will be remembered.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Wilson; brother-in-law Robert Wilson; niece, Marcia Dies (John); several cousins and dear friends, Gerry Adkins and Becky Hensley
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Newbridge Baptist Church with Reverends Clark Henderson and Wesley Pike officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are; Jeff Justice, Burgin Parker, Anthony Hyder, Cary Adkins, Ed Bryson, Chris Dorsey, Ronnie Ingle and Michael Wright. Honorary pallbearers are; Boyd Black, Bill McClement and Donnie Hensley. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00pm Friday, April 29th at Newbridge Baptist Church.
