Nelms-Riedling
May 4, 1945 – December 14, 2024
Suzanne Farmer Nelms-Riedling, 79, of Mars Hill, passed away on December 14, 2024. She was born on May 4, 1945 in Asheville, NC and was the daughter of the late Carroll Baird Farmer, Sr. and Bessie Mae Patterson Farmer.
Susie attended Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, NC, later known as Asheville High School, and various classes at AB-Tech college. She worked in accounting and payroll at the former Hilton Hotel in Asheville, NC and several other accounting jobs in WNC; finally retiring in payroll for the NC State Department of Transportation in Asheville, NC. She enjoyed bird watching, feeding hummingbirds and other wild birds, working crossword puzzles, family genealogy, collecting hats, and Blue Ridge pottery. She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling and attending St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was affectionately known as, "The Hat Lady" by her friends.
In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, Larry E. Nelms, Sr.; her first husband, James Michael Riedling; brother, Carroll B. Farmer, Jr.; and son, Brian Timothy Nelms.
Susie is survived by her son, Larry Eugene Nelms, Jr. and wife, Michelle Q. Nelms of Mars Hill; grandchildren, Kimberly Suzanne Nelms of Port St. Lucie, FL, David Nelms, Gabriel Nelms, and Angela Nelms all of Mars Hill; and great grandchildren, Hezekiah and Aaliyah.
A graveside service for family and close friends, will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, March 3, 2025, in West Memorial Park, Weaverville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family would like to say thank you to all of the friends and family for the support in our many times of trouble over the years; especially the many family survivors not mentioned, as the list is very long, but you know who you are, and we love you all, Thank You!
