IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Velma Violet
Chandler
October 25, 1943 – May 2, 2024
Velma Chandler, age 80, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, co-worker and comforter went to be with her heavenly father on Thursday May 2, 2024. Velma was born on October 25, 1943 to Erlin (Buck) Franklin and Rose Norton (Franklin) in Madison County, NC.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Chandler; mother, Rosie Norton (Franklin); father, Erlin (Buck) Norton.
Velma is survived by her children, Michael Chandler of Mars Hill, Heather C. West "Carrie" (Walter Doyle) of Spindale, NC, and Nicholas Chandler "Rooster" of Mars Hill; grandson, Cameron J. West of Spindale, NC; sisters, Shirley Gibson of Greenville, TN, Jean Chandler (Lanny) of Mars Hill, and Nora Etta Chandler of Mars Hill; brother, Wiliam Franklin (Linda) of Burnsville, NC; and more nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews than one can count.
Velma was a devout Christian who enjoyed reading her bible and watching her "programs" on TV. She loved working outside during the spring and summer tending her flowers and garden. She found unmeasurable happiness working with her hands in the dirt. There was nothing better than seeing a huge smile on her face as she saw how well her flowers had bloomed for the year.
Velma was a testament to others in the way she lived her life. Others around her found comfort in her kindness and her words. She loved being active in groups and charity work when she was younger. As she aged, she served as a caregiver and friend to some in the community by assisting with their daily needs to ensure they could remain in their homes. Even during her hospital stay she never complained and was always kind and comforting to the nurses and personnel that surrounded her during her final days on this earth.
She loved the color purple and was an avid Loretta Lynn fan from day one. Velma will be missed by all who loved her more than this announcement can ever begin to explain.
"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me..." We love you momma.
