William Jack "Bill" Brigman, 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after a brief illness.

Born on November 14, 1940, in Madison County, North Carolina, Bill remained a lifelong resident of the county he loved. He devoted his life to his family, his community, and the education of countless children.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Knox Brigman and Verna Briggs Brigman.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Crowe Brigman; his daughter, Teresa Strom and her husband, Dwaine Strom; his son, Rodney Brigman and his wife, Gaynell Brigman; his granddaughter, Sarah Parkhurst and her husband, Bill Parkhurst; his two beloved great-grandsons, Will Parkhurst and James Parkhurst; and his brothers, Harry Brigman and John Knox Brigman.

Bill dedicated his professional life to education and to the students of Western North Carolina. He began his teaching career in 1962 at French Broad Elementary School before continuing at Weaverville Primary School He later served as principal at Red Oak Elementary School, Marshall Elementary School, and North Buncombe Elementary School. While serving as principal at Marshall Elementary School, Bill started the Madison County Youth League basketball program, providing young people with opportunities to learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership through athletics. Throughout his years in education, Bill was respected as a compassionate teacher, a dedicated leader, and a mentor who positively influenced the lives of students, teachers, and families. His commitment to excellence in education and his genuine care for others left a lasting legacy that will be remembered for generations.

In addition to his career in education, Bill began driving for Trailways in 1963 and later continued his career with Young's Transportation. He retired from Young's Transportation after 43 years of dedicated service. Many customers specifically requested Bill as their driver because of his friendly personality, professionalism, and genuine concern for his passengers. He took great pride in ensuring every trip was safe, enjoyable, and memorable, forming many lasting friendships along the way.

When he wasn't working, Bill found great joy in the outdoors. He loved fishing, tending to his garden, and working on his farm.

Bill was a lifelong member of Davis Chapel Baptist Church, where his faith was an important part of his life.

Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He treasured every moment spent with his family, especially his two great-grandsons, Will and James, who brought him immeasurable joy and were the light of his life.

Bill will be remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, humility, and unwavering dedication to his family, his profession, and his community. His life was one of service, love, and integrity, and his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched-as an educator, a bus driver, a mentor, a friend, and, most importantly, a loving family man.

In accordance with Bill's wishes, the family will hold a private graveside service, with Reverend Steve Honeycutt officiating.
