IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Boyd
Eatmon
November 4, 1936 – April 12, 2025
William Boyd Eatmon, 88, of Mars Hill, NC passed away peacefully at his home on April 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a lifelong resident of Madison County, born on November 4, 1936, in Mars Hill. He was a proud and faithful member of California Creek Baptist Church. He also attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Burnsville for several years. A man deeply rooted in his community, he was a dedicated member of the Bald Creek 397 AF & AM Masonic Lodge and honorably served in the North Carolina National Guard for six years.
After completing his service, he developed a passion for amateur radio and became a licensed Ham radio operator with the call sign KD4IQ. Through this hobby, he found great joy in connecting with people from all walks of life, engaging in conversations that spanned not just the country, but the entire globe. His call sign, now a silent key, stands as a lasting tribute to the voice he shared with so many across the airwaves—an enduring symbol of his curiosity, warmth, and connection to community.
Boyd was the proud owner and broker of his own business, Boyd Eatmon Realty LLC, and he also served many years with the North Carolina DMV as a Driver's License Examiner. Known for his warm spirit and easy sense of humor, he brought joy to all who knew him. Boyd never met a stranger — wherever he went, he made a friend. His love for sharing a good joke and brightening someone's day will be remembered by all.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Wilma Chandler Eatmon, who passed away on February 14, 2000. His parents were the late Clyde and Alice Belle Chandler Eatmon; Dorothy Siler and her husband Clifton; his brother, Lowell; his stepmother, Deltha Eatmon; his half-sister, Becky Mileschkowsky; half-brothers, Ronnie and John Eatmon; step brothers-in-law; Bob Adamiak and Michael Mileschkowsky and R.J. Plemmons.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Maxine Rector Eatmon; his son, Mark Eatmon (Vicki) of Leicester and stepson; P.J. Shelton (Linda) of Marshall; grandson, Max Eatmon of Asheville; half-brothers, Tommy Eatmon of Tennessee and David Eatmon (Darlene) of Michigan; half-sister, Sandi Adamiak of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Plemmons, Audrey Eatmon, Julia Eatmon all of Tennessee, along with loads of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at California Creek Baptist Church in Mars Hill, NC on Saturday, April 19, 2025. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service. The service will begin at 3:00 pm with Reverend Jerry Shelton and Reverand Josh McDevitt officiating.
