Bobby Joe Hernandez, age 80, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015. He was a lifelong resident of Madison County and the son of the late Joseph and Velva Buckner Hernandez. He is preceded in death by his wife Esta Lee Hernandez. He was a retired postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a deacon at Peeks Chapel Baptist Church, and a member of Bald Creek Lodge #397 AF&AM.
He is survived by his son, Gary Hernandez (Tina) of Mars Hill; half sister, Nadine Fisher of Mars Hill; and a grandson, Derek.
A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM, Sunday, May 31st at the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service with Reverends Jerry Wheeler and Billy Murray officiating. Burial will follow at Gabriel’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
