Obituary for Opal Boyd (Ledford)

Opal Ledford Boyd, 95, of146 Station Gap Dr., Marshall, passed away, July 11, 2015, at the Brian Center in Weaverville. Opal was the daughter of the late Letus and Mahaley Harris Ledford. Mrs. Boyd was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed going to church and her church family at Barnard Baptist Church of which she was a member. Opal loved her garden, flowers, canning and cooking, of which she always wanted to share her cakes and pies with folks who visited. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Harry Alden Boyd, who passed away February 11, 2015, two sisters and three brothers.
Opal is survived by daughter, Jan Buckner (B.J.) of Marshall; son, Tommy Boyd (Janie) of Walnut; brother, Billy Ledford of Weaverville; grandchildren, Jeffery Boyd (Tammy) and Melissa Caldwell and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, July 15, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Jimmy Dean Hensley, Robert Elliott and Lawrence Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bowman-Rector Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care they provided for Mrs. Boyd during her stay.
