Porter Wallin, 96, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. A lifelong resident of Madison County, Porter was the son of the late Thomas Porter Wallin and Sallie Kate Burnette Wallin. In addition to his parents, Porter is preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Edwin Ponder, a brother Ralph Wallin, and sisters Marie Grindstaff and Kathleen Wallin.
Porter was a faithful member of Bright Hope Laurel United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army (Cavalry) and retired from the water treatment department of Bald Mountain Development Corporation.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, JB Bailey Wallin, a son, Freddie Wallin (Jane) of Mars Hill, three daughters, Carolyn Ponder (Ed), Marsha Boyd (Samuel) and Vickie Carver (Bulow) all of Mars Hill, granddaughter Laura Ponder, grandsons James Carver (Athena), Stephen Carver (Maria), Cory Wallin (Emily), Jacob Wallin and Jared Wallin (Savannah), and great-grandchildren Mikalya Carver and Aidan Carver.
Funeral services will be held at 7p.m. on Friday, September 18th at Bright Hope Laurel United Methodist Church, with Reverends Patricia Lewis and John Gatewood officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19th in the Upper English Cemetery.
