Michael Douglas  Buckner
Michael "Mike" Douglas Buckner, 68, of 175 Buckner Branch Rd., passed away April 20, 2017 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. He was the son of the late Billy and Glyndon Wallin Buckner. Mike served in Vietnam as a U.S. Marine, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and was retired from the NC Dept. of Corrections after 35 years of service, and received the Long Leaf Pine Award.
He is survived by the love of his life, for the last 16 years, Sara Jane Edwards Buckner; son, Wayne Buckner (Sheena), step daughter, Melody Buckner, step son, Randy Riddle (Wanda); sister, Pat Burchfiel (Tom); step grandchildren, Tyler, Jayden Buckner and Kierra Ripley. Mike was also survived by many friends and extended family.
A funeral service will be held 3:00pm Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Ivy Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member. Mike's brother in law Reverend James Messer Sr., Reverend Worth Emory and Michael Leophard will conduct the service. The burial will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11-2:00pm Saturday prior to the service at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
