Elezene  Briggs (English)
Elezene English Briggs, 100 years old, of Bailey Street, Mars Hill, passed away May 7, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Welzie and Addie Sprinkle English and the wife of the late Paul Pritchard Briggs. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by her daughter, Revalelle E. Briggs (17 months of age); grandson Paul Pritchard Briggs III; three sisters: Lee Wingo, Mae Horne and Paris Littlejohn; four brothers: Richard, Lee Ernest, Wesley and William English.
Mrs. Briggs retired from Hammerland Manufacturing after 15 years. She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church and baked many dozens of her blueberry muffins for fundraisers for friends and especially for Mars Hill Library and Madison County Neighbors in Need. She was a pleasant, warm and generous lady with a twinkle in her striking brown eyes, who always took time to listen, assure and help anyone in need.
Mrs. Briggs is survived by a daughter, Pauline Briggs Carr (Frank) of Asheville; son Paul Pritchard Briggs Jr. (Rita) of Mars Hill; two grandchildren: Frank Carr II (Rachael) of Mars Hill, Lynn Briggs Austin (Barry) of Burnsville; granddaughter in law: Hollie Briggs; four great grandchildren: Sage Austin, Ayla Carr, Emma Carr and Bristol Briggs; sisters: Hazel English of Daytona Beach, FL and Mary Ruth Roberts of Mars Hill; brother: Warren English of Weaverville and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Mars Hill Baptist Church. Reverends Tommy Justus and Glenn Graves will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
