Obituary for Eveleen Shelton (Norton)

Eveleen Shelton (Norton)
Eveleen Norton Shelton, 86 of Grapevine Road went to be with her heavenly Father on May 28, 2017, after a long period of declining health. Eveleen resided with her daughter in Mars Hill for the last 3 ½ years.
Eveleen was born April 28, 1931. A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Pauline Lewis Norton. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Hesey Shelton, who passed away February 8, 1999 and a sister, Ollie Norton Boone.
Eveleen worked at Hammerlund in Mars Hill and Quarams for many years. She finally retired from Mars Hill Elementary School lunch room, where she helped prepare and serve lunch to all her kids, as she called them.
In her younger years, Eveleen enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband Hesey and taking Sunday afternoon dune buggy rides with their dune buggy friends. She loved to read, crochet dollies, sew, and punch rugs. She enjoyed their camper at Lake Keowee. She raised a garden, canned and froze her bounty just to give most of it away to family and friends. She loved her flowers, and spent many hours taking care of them. She was a devoted Christian and attended Church of God faithfully until her health slowed her down. She enjoyed going to gospel singings where she made many friends. Eveleen was a sweet, loving and caring person. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Eveleen is survived by a daughter, Katheryn Coates (Bernard) of Mars Hill; sons, Edward Shelton (Kathy) and Phillip Shelton, both of Marshall; grandchildren, Rodney Coates, Melda Rector (Jeff), both of Weaverville, Lisa Shelton of Waynesville, Tina Ball (Presley) of Weaverville, and Prudience Shelton (Clyde) of Marshall; great grandchildren, Tamantha Rector, Ryan Coates both of Weaverville; Dalas Shelton, Jessie Ziegler (Luke) both of Marshall, and Brian Green of Winston Salem. Two of Eveleen’s greatest joys was her fifth-generation great great granddaughter, Brooklyn Feathers and her fifth-generation great great grandson, Talon Cash Rector Coates who could make her laugh and smile anytime. She is also survived by two sisters, Edith Carver (Landon) and Wanda Maltry (Danny); three brothers, Buck Norton, Barnum Norton (Peggy), and Randy Norton (Debbie) all of Marshall, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday with Reverends D. Harry Culbertson, Jr and Ken Parker officiating. Burial will follow at the Clark Cemetery.
