Grace Marie McKinney Sluder, 84, of Clarks Chapel Road in Weaverville. Passed away on May 1, 2015 at the John F. Keefer, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. She was the daughter of the late Geter and Ocie Waldroup McKinney. She is preceded in death by her husband Roland Sluder, daughter, Patricia Kay Paz and brothers, Donald and Ernest McKinney.
Grace was an avid gardener. She loved her flowers, growing vegetables and canning. She never met a stranger but nothing could compare to the love she had for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Rolenia Hawkins (David) of Leicester, Brenda Fisher of the home; sons, Ron Sluder (Stephanie) of Lexington, SC, Joe Sluder (Donna) of Dade City, FL, and Rick Sluder (Pat) of Marshall; sister, Margie Hewitt of Shelby; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 8th in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel at the Blue Ridge Funeral Service with Rev. Larry Sprouse officiating. Burial will follow at Little Ivy Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the love and care that the doctors, nurses and CNA’s at the Solace Center showed to their mother and the family during her illness.
