The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Gary Phillips can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Road Trip

I have several stories with my friend Gary, but the one that is my favorite is one that took place on Dec 26 th 2001. We left Mars Hill with no set plan or direction. We stayed on the back roads looking for horse drawn equipment, Cars,Trucks,Gas Pumps, and anything to put into our collections. Yes we were "Pickers" before it became popular. Gary and I traveled through SC, GA, and into the edge of Florida. Stopping anywhere we wanted. Each Night at sunset we would find a motel, eat and map out a back road for the next day. We were gone 5 nights and 6 days. We had a great time, talking about god, family, racing and junk.I thanked him many times for this much needed trip,at a time in my life when I needed a friend to talk too. He was a true friend, who will be remembered for his kindness to others, his ability to fix anything, his always positive attitude and most of all his friendship. I know without any doubt he has now sat down with Dale Earnhardt, and many others in the NASCAR world who have passed on to that hevenly home on high.I will miss him and know I'll see him again some day. RIP my dear friend.
