Condolence: I am so sorry . I didn't know about Vernon's passing until last week. Couldn't believe it. We had some fun times at Hilton Head, as a neighbor. Again , I wish someone had informed me. Great friend and fun guy.

Condolence: Sadly I am. Coach Chapman and I were on the staff of the first football team @ Davidson H.S. Mobile.

He was a great coach, a wonderful teacher, and a trusting person I am truly grateful that he is part of my life.

Huddle up Coach...you were the BEST!

Condolence: Our sorrow at Dr. Chapmans' passing. He contributed so much to the school system in his years with us. If leaving a legacy was as important to him as it is to most of us, he should have left us as a well contented soul. Our feeling of loss is surely not on the level of you folks in his family, but just as sincere. Be proud of your husband, father and grandfather...he was quite a guy!!

Condolence: To My Dearest Friend, Susan, and Your special Family,
My heart breaks for you all during this time. Susan, my head is flooded with so many memories of your dad, but the two that are my most favorite are his nickname for you (you know the one!), and that sparkle in his eyes that was there every time he was near you! There were times when I was afraid of him when I was a little girl because he was large and had mastered the stern look. But then there was that sparkle and I knew inside was a teddy bear! Oh...and the fun at Hilton Head! I could go on and on, but I really want you to know that I send my love and hugs from Montana and I pray for the process of mourning and healing to be smooth, peaceful and, eventually, comforting.
Love to all!

Condolence From: Dr. David Johnson
Condolence: I was Doc's student in 1979. Now I teach at a university in Pennsylvania. On Tuesday this week, I was recounting a story Doc told me 38 years ago about his early days as a teacher in Alabama, and I credited him by name to my students here. Today, I learned this great man has passed from us. I think he would have liked knowing that his personal story was still being told to train young folks in another place many years later. I hope this brings some small comfort to the family. I am grateful for the life and mind of Vernon Chapman.
